Here's some qualitative information about how our radio stations perform in Central Minnesota.


98 Country

WWJO  (98.1 FM)  --  “98 Country” has a Country format that offers a regional adult listenership.  Excellent audience distribution in all age cells, but the main target demo is Adults 25-54.  Dominant 100,000-watt regional FM signal helped make WWJO the top overall station (Persons 12+, M-Su 6a-12m, Avg Shr) over the past year (Arbitron -- Fall-06 / Spring-06 average).  It was also #1 in the Fall-06 book, and it has been #1 in nine of the last twelve and in 17 of the last 22 individual surveys of the St. Cloud Metro Survey Area…and it is #1 in a multitude of key buying demos.  This area of the U.S. is more likely to listen to Country stations than any other region (67% more likely than the national average).  Total average listening tends to be slightly higher for women than for men (traditionally low 50s to high 40s, percentage-wise).  90.4% of total audience are homeowners…just under 68% have a household income greater than $50K annually.  98country.com is Internet presence with streaming audio.

103.7 The Loon

KLZZ  (103.7 FM)  --  “The Loon” is a 9,000-watt Classic Rock station that targets Adults and Men 25-54.  Audience is usually 55% or more male.  70.6% of audience has HH income > $50K, and over 90% are homeowners.  Best format in Radio for consistently reaching men.  In the Fall-06/Spring-06 Arbitron survey, The Loon had the top share of audience for Men 18+ and Men 25-54, and it was tied for #1 Adults 25-54 and Adults 35-64.  Tends to have a higher audience composition among Adults 25-44 than any other format.  This region of the country has more Rock listeners than any other (37% more likely than the national average to be Rock listeners).  Listeners tend to be very active in recreational activities such as sports and attending movies.  They are 35% more likely than the norm to have a home improvement loan.  Website (streaming) is 1037theloon.com.

Mix 94.9

KMXK  (94.9 FM)  --  “The Mix 94-9” has a Hot Adult Contemporary format, offering “true variety”.  Primary demo: Adults 18-49.  Listenership is usually in the area of 65% female and 35% male.  Strongest age cell tend to be     25-34.  50,000-watt signal delivers a regional audience. Good income levels (72% of all listeners earn > $50K annually).  Usually 35% or more of the total listening to this sort of station occurs at work.  Streaming on the web at mix949.com.

Kiss 96-7

KKSR  (96.7 FM)  --  “Kiss 96” targets Persons 18-34 with a Contemporary Hit Radio format.  KKSR plays “today’s best music” - a combination of the hottest CHR favorites with some elements of Urban and Hip-Hop.  A 50,000-watt powerhouse with limited commercial load.  Audience percentage tends to be roughly 60% female and 40% male.  Biggest age cell is usually 18-24.  This kind of station has a greater share of evening listening than any other Radio format (Interep says that approximately 65% of all teens listen to the Radio regularly during the hours of 7 & 11 pm).  Teens have great influence over the purchasing decisions of a family…yet 61% of all teens DO NOT regularly read a daily newspaper.  Interactive streaming website at kiss96.com.

1390 The Fan

KXSS (AM 1390) -- “The Fan of St. Cloud” is a member of the KFAN (Minneapolis) Radio Network. Regional sports and news talk is provided by such well-known figures as Dan Barreiro, Chad Hartman, PA & Dubay and others, plus the locally produced “Granite City Cafe.” This station, which also carries broadcasts of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Gopher football, basketball and hockey, the St. Cloud Riverbats and area prep sports, attracts a Male 18-54 demo. AM 1240 WJON

WJON  (AM 1240)  --  News/Talk/Information format delivers an Adult 35+ audience.  1000-watt signal.  Slightly greater % of male listeners to female.  This format has the largest share of “morning drive” listenership of any Radio format. News-talk listeners are consumers of all types of financial products/services at rates well above the national average.  Also, better than average education and income levels.  Three and a-half person full-time news staff, full-time sports director, on-staff meteorologist and more.  Area affiliate for the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and Timberwolves.  Paul Harvey and other ABC Information Network programming.  WJON’s programming is also carried under images of local weather conditions, forecasts and radar updates on Channel 20 of Charter Communications, St. Cloud ’s primary cable provider.  Award-winning website (wjon.com) averages over 30,000 unique visitors per month.  Winner of the prestigious “Crystal Award” from the National Association of Broadcasters in 2006, 2002 & 1989.  The “heritage” radio station of St. Cloud , with 58 years of LOCAL service to the community.  Streaming on the internet weekday mornings from 5 to 11.
